Street / Track Pads

If you are changing from street tires to race tires, then you need to also change out the pads. I know that the vast majority of track-day guys aren't doing this, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be. It only means they don't know better or they're lazy. There is no pad out there yet that does it all. They all have their spacific temp. range. The street pads don't work well when too hot and the race pads don't work well when too cold. That's it. Besides, Porsche/Brembo calipers are sooooo easy; just do it and be the guy in the paddock doing it right.

Hey Pete...try taking you foot off the brake pedal once in awhile and your brakes should last longer. I have never seen a car that is driven on the street wear out it's brakes in 12,000 miles. Are you sure they are worn out? Why do you think they are? 46,000 miles on my orginals so far.

Cool

Something is wrong.
I just read a review on a year old + C4S and the article said the pads will last 100,000 miles.
Mine are @ 80 % with 21,000 miles.

We all drive differently...someuse the brakes more or incorrectly. I just changed by brake fluid 3 days ago and inspected the original pads. More that 30% left with almost 50,000 miles on them. No track time.

In an effort to assist others who search for brake info I'll include my recent experience -

I have a 99 C2 with 50k miles. OE pads had 50% life left in them.
A group of fellow enthusiasts rented a nearby track and I wanted to ensure that my brakes made it through the day. (really didn't know what to expect as it was my first track day experience)
I called Dan at CDOC, explained my situation and how I use the car most of the time.
Dan recommended Hawk HP+ pads, steel braided lines, and high temp brake fluid. After the install, I was AMAZED at how firm the peddle felt and how aggressive the car was now stopping. Mind you, the OE was already fantastic.
When the track day arrived, I had great brakes. Most everyone there (various makes/models of cars) mentioned lots of fad. There was even a Ruf Twin Turbo who experienced boil over despite the new high temp brake fluid. Anyway, I could feel a little fade toward the end of our 20min runs, but nothing serious.
All in all I'm one happy guy.

Thanks -

Eddie
