Man I loathe that thing - it's ugly and impractical. Are there any alternatives to that out there? Like just a hollow cubbie?

remove the console side panels first. Grab rear edge (gas pedal side) and pop outward, then pull forward. Once both sides are off there are screws holding the CD storage unit (IIRC).

Why not put in a double-DIN Kenwood NAV/DVD unit?

easy.... 'eject the CD holders' then hold on to them and give a firm but gentle tug on them straight out. worked for me with both the CD and cassette holders.

question- how many people thought the CD holder was the CD Changer?

haha, I'll be the first to admit that I thought it was a changer. Also took me a month to realize I had two cupholders!

That's what I did and it worked like a charm. Then slide the new cubby in and it will snap into place. The CD holder is just slightly less stupid than the cassette holder. But not much.

Be cheap like me and just leave the DIN hole as is once the CD holder is removed. The car is a few ounces lighter and good for .000001 sec increase in speed.
