Ebay audio upgrade.....

I am not a huge audiophile; however I would appreciate a bit more bass from my sound system. My car came with the door speakers, but not the Bose system.
My real question is, what do you think of these components offered on ebay. Now, aside from the fact that I know almost nothing about upgrading sound systems, I am always cautious when I purchase from ebay. I contacted someone who had purchased this same product, but they hadn't installed it yet, so they couldn't really tell me if there was any benefit.

Anyways, enough prattling on. Here's the link. If any of you happen to know a couple simple speaker swaps I could do (that don't cost an arm and a leg) I would love to know them as well.

Thanks again,
John

I have that system in my 996. While it will sound better than your stock system, it will sound a lot better if you change out your head unit. I changed mine to Blaupunkt as it use the same connectors but have a 5 band parametric eq that really makes all the difference. You will be amazed by the bass this system puts out with the blaupunkt head unless you want to shake the car besides you too. Note that you will also need the rear upgrade for this system to work well.

rear upgrade??????? You mean there's more to this system.

Please go on.

And I did change my head unit (though probably not to one most people would have chosen: a jensen dvd touch screen unit)

If you look at DPS motorsport's store in ebay, you will see they have a rear speaker that is supposed to work with the hpas front speaker unit. Again, if you have changed out your head unit and have some kind of eq in it, this will be the cheapest way to go and all will look oem. I did paid about $2k at the time and this is so cheap now. If you don't need to shake the car next to you and you are looking for audio quality, not quantity, then this is for you. But you will only get the audio quality with some kind of eq if your head unit has it. Otherwise, there is a limitation of what it can do. It is very good with all the oem looks besides cutting the front door which is not bad once you take your time. I highly recommend it unless you want to spend more and retrofit speakers into the porsche grill and have amp rack in the hood as most other aftermarket amps are too big to fit in the amp area. I have a c4, if you have a c2, that might be different. Good luck.

Most people seem to choose the Kenwood double-din touch screen units (DNX-7100, 7120, etc). Good sound and features work well.

There are a lot of members here who have done full system upgrades so you are sure to get a ton of advice.
