Latest 997 info from EVO magazine

1) 997 will arrive in mid - 2004 and likely the coupe, cab and turbo variants will arrive fairly closely in timing
2) not a total redesign (the 998 is coming in 2007 and it is a complete redesign). The writers make the point that W.W. reckoned he could save money and boost sales of the 911 by appealing to us 911- loving enthusiasts with the interim 997 car.
3) a return to the 911 coke-bottle shape with more pronounced front "wings" and flared rears - a more aggressive and alert look, they say.
4) heavily re-worked interior with redesigned instrument package and sport seats standard - new cabin has resemblance to Cayenne's
5) 3.8L flat 6 at 340 hp. S version at 380 hp
6) options include 6 speed tiptronic or a variation on the Audi DSG twin clutch system
7) 19" wheels on all 997's
