I'm trying to remove this piece to paint it. can't figure out.Help me please.

If you look along the side of it between the vertical edge and the seat you will see 2 or 3 plastic plugs. Remove those. Inside that hole there will be a 5mm allen head screw. What you want to do is loosen the screw, do not remove it. Back it off about 2 turns is all. Then the entire trim will pop up, but will still have some resistance due to some trim clips that hold it into the door sill.
