shifter linkage or tranny issue?

Started having a problem a few weeks ago.............
When engaging first gear from a stop, as I let the clutch out, the gear shifter pops out of gear.
It's not too bad on a level surface because I can push the clutch back in and push the gearshifter back into first and then it is OK, but if I give it a bit of gas and it pops out it makes a real grinding sound..yuck!!

This pop out is happening about 15-20% of the time so almost as if it is a particular spot on a syncro or gear that has to line up to cause the problem.

I thought it might be the shifter linkage but I guess that it would be more regular.

Happen to anyone else?

That happened on my old 911SC with the Z15 box. It was definitely the first gear syncro. It came on quick and got progressively worst. It happens under load to start. Get it repaired since it may be putting big metal particles/pieces in the tranny which will work their way through the other syncros and the gears.
