Cost to replace transmission on my '99?

I was just wondering what others haved paid to have their transmission replaced? I have a 99 996 6 speed... and my dealer is going through a place out in Colorado to get a rebuilt transmission for $3,700 (comes with warranty 1-year) and about $1000 in total labor.

I missed a shift tracking the car this summer and smoked a bearing for 3rd gear. I drove it for a month or two before bringing the car into the shop. They drained the tranny fluid and found lots of metal shavings and even some black plasctic chunks. They then dropped the tranny opened the covering and found the remains of the bearing and some shaved teeth on 3rd. They said I was better of replacing the whole transmission as those metal shaving could have done some damage to the other bearings and I was better off just buying a replacement transmission (peace of mind + warranty). Let me know what you guys think...

If that price is with shipping, then it is probably about right. I have seeen them for $3300 w/ a 1 year warranty, but with the ~$400 r/t shipping the price is about a wash. The key is to make sure what they consider a "full" rebuild. Make sure you know what they replaced.
