04-06 STi's have ridicoulously short gears, 07 lengthened it out a bit. Significant tranny upgrades have been made through the years. Torsion rear limited slip added in 06 i think? replaced an inferior ltd slip. Gear syncros have been improved prety much every year.

Interesting but i was curious about stock STi real numbers.
Purpose-built race cars are a different animal.

pretty sure 0-60 stock STi is about 4.8 if you beat the crap out of it. Ive seen a stock 05 driven very well to a 12.96 1/4. Most are 13-13.3. Not sure of the porsche numbers for comparison.

I personally cant daily drive an 04-07 STi. The ride quality is far too poor/stiff for my driving. I work at a subaru dealership and regularly drive one overnight, and I have literally had people ask me whats wrong with the car as they are bounsing up and down in the passenger seat. Granted they were in no way car enthusiasts, and everyone has their own tastes and preferences, but I would take the ride of a 996 over the STi anyday...... but I still cant bring myself to fairly compare the two.

Sti = extremely high value performance for your dollar!! bare bones, fast, raw

Porshe = umm its a porsche =) if it doesnt have the same performance numbers as the STi, it has luxury, ride quality, and style

Its all in what you personally want. did you make a decision yet..... or leaning one way or another??

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your info, but a stock STI (any year) is not faster than a stock 996. Sure they might be close 0-60 due to the STI's AWD launch but the 996 will rape it at higher speeds and destroy it on a road course.

But what if you live your life, one quarter-mile at a time?

Sorry, couldn't resist throwing some Fast and Furious in there...

Ah ben, I have missed you over at Rennlist due to comments like these.

To the op, if you are considering facelifted 996 cars, why not look at 996 turbos? I guarantee the tt will make you forget that your STi even existed.

Hey everyone, I'm still looking around locally for cars. Unfortunately have not been able to find any recently that seemed to be worth the time. Hopefully will find on 02+ to test drive. A turbo would be nice but is a bit out of price range even though they have come down significantly. As well I think a simpler standard 911 would be the nicest. Although I'm not looking for C4's, the for me the turbo's best advantage would be AWD for snow. Hoping a few listings come up before the holidays... if not, no worries, im patient and know that the right vehicle will come around.
