Quick google seach has the weight at 2,920 lbs, definaltey lighter than the GTO your comming from but also 50 hp less. Test drive a few cars if you can, im sure it will be a very different feeling. Definatley turning into a buyers market right now. Anyone sitting on cash ready to buy is in a good position.

Adding to that, I will say this Porsche will drive very different from your GTO. I would read up on putting a NA 996 through the gears to get the best performance before going to test drive them. This way you aren't dissapointed on the test drive.
IMO the car can seem really slow and heavy if you just drive it like any other NA car. I own two other turbo cars and I have to remember how to push the Porsche every time I get in it. Just my opinion though.

Good luck! Get the latest year you can afford and don't be afraid to consider 99-01 model years. "Porsche 996 The Essential Companion" by Streather is a great book/resource.
