I have a 99 996 C2. 72k miles. All maintenance done to car and it runs great. Temp. runs around 185-190 degrees. don't know if this is good or bad.
Anyway when your eingine blew did you have any warning sign or did it just go. I am debating on getting a warranty and there expensive so not sure what to do. If it happens I'd rather have few thousand warranty than to pay for a $12k plus engine.

it just went. I was coming home from a bar at 2:30 am doing between 65-75 mph. There's no rhyme or reason to it. My buest suggestion is to extend the warranty or purchase a 911 with a reman engine in it. Dropping $12,865 cash on the counter paying for a new engine ssssuuuccccckkksssssss

I have a warranty on mine. I bought my 01 C4 with 37K on it in June of 07 and it just turned 47K now but I still worry about my engine due to all I have heard.

Instant overheat and went, no warning really. Cost is higher then stated now, just over 15k with new clutch. New motor purrrrs though!

New 3.4 fron Sunset. Got lucky and got a brand new one even though I ordered and paid for a factory reman.

$11,020 - motor
$1250 - clutch kit w/ flywheel
$2480 - install from Indy
$620 - shipping new and core return

I know the install was high but wanted to give my indy the business as he takes care of me. All parts from Sunset too.

Am OEM clutch alone might be $500. But the whole assembly with flywheel and throw-out bearings is more like $1,100 for OEM, or $1,800 for a lightweight flywheel and hi-performance Sachs Stage2 clutch.
