I recently got a 997S a few months back a friend gave me these wheels/snows. He is a Ferrari salesman and took in a 911 on trade. The owner also gave him these wheels and tires. My friend is not a Porsche guy and is unsure what type of 911 these came from. I'm guessing that they are from a 996.

The front wheels are 17x7 ET55 with 225/50R17 Dunlop SP WinterSport M3 tires. The rears are 17x8.5 ET 50 with 255/40R17 WinterSport M3 tires. I am looking to put them for sale on eBay but I need help determining what cars they will fit. Can anyone help?

I have those rims on my 996 C2. Guess they'll fit all 996, spacers needed for wb.

These are 996 Carrera 2 rims:

The 7" front rims should have part no: 996.362.124.00
The 8,5" rear rims should have part no: 996.362.126.05

I do not know why the fronts are fitted with 225 tires, as the standard tire widths for a 996 with 17" wheels are 205 front and 255 rear.

 

Thanks - I just reexamined the wheels and the do show the part numbers that you note. Also, I was wrong - the front tire is a 205/50R17 and not a 225. So these are for a 996? Several other folks have told me that they are from a 986 Boxster.

 

they are Boxsters'... those are not 996 offsets.

 

Unless they also use 996 part numbers for 986, these are 996 wheels.

they are also called "996 Carrera 2" wheels!

My 996 C2 was delivered from the factory with these wheels (I have the 9" rears).

 

The part numbers cast into the wheels start with 996. The fronts are 996 362 124 00 and the rears are 996 362 126 05. In addition, several google searches of these part numbers come up with wheels for a 996. They may also fit a Boxster, but I don't know for sure.

 

the early 996 and boxsters shared the same parts... BTW, these are all diff Boxsters

 

The answer is that those wheels were available for both the Boxster and the early 996 Carreras. They were offered on the 986 Boxster as the standard issued wheel for year round use, but also for the 996 Carrera as a wheel specified for winter use.

For a 996 the 8,5" rears are for winter use, probably to allow narrower winter tires than the std. 255s. The 9" rears may be used with both winter and summer tires.

Yes, they should work fine on a 986 Boxster. If you're going to sell it on fleabay, I'd just list the actual part numbers, the size of the wheels and tires, and say that according to your information, they will fit 986 Boxsters and 996 Carreras (specified for winter use on the 996, and may or may not require spacers), and that it is up to the buyer to make the final determination if it fits their particular car. That way, you're off the hook if there's any problem.
