If you don't have a CPI inspection done by a porsche mechanic, you are crazy.

Never ever ever buy a used sports car without it being looked at by a professional familiar with the model. It's well worth the couple of hundred dollars (CA) to do it.

Just curious - what compelled you to essentially trade your Z4 for a 996? I'm a Carrera guy through and through... and assumed that beemer guys (especially the z-series guys) were sort of the same way...

to answer that question, my first car was an S2000, and due to family reasons i sold it,
then later on, i wanted something similar to the size of the S2000 but with more power so i settled down for the Z4, then lately i saw a local 996 for sale, for a reasonable price so i decided to see if i could sell my Z, and lucky enough i found a buyer
my brother had a C4S 996, so i always wanted a 996

Having the aero kit on first is huge if you like that style.

get it inspected prior to purchase and your good to go!

Enjoy!

service records!!!! PPI is a must before sealing the deal. Worth the extra $250.

++1 on the PPI and make sure they check the ECU for OVERREVS. On the BMW vs Porsche issue, I had 6 BMWs before my 996. Apples and Oranges. A Z4 M Coupe might, on paper compare to a 996, and it sure is a better built car with a more reliable engine by far, but it seriously isn't near as much fun to drive. I was looking to get one in the mid 40's to replace my Z3, when I saw I could get into a nice 996C2 in the mid 30's. Variety is the spice of life and you only live once. If it blows up, well, I had my shot at it, eh?

Full PPI +++
If NB, leather interior is good
If you like Aero and it has it that's good (there are three parts to aero: bumper cover, side skirts, and wing). Body kits are expensive
Coil over suspension is extremely nice to have

NEVER buy a Porsche without a PPI!!!!!!!!!! Probably a great car but the money spent on a PPI will be the best money you will spend.

HOLD OFF on the purchase until you get a LEAKDOWN TEST and know how many # 2 overrevs the car has as well as doing a PPI.
