Yeah, I considered trading mine as well for a 335i coupe but they weren’t going to give me anything for my car. So I still come out better if I pay to get it fixed then sell it.
On another note, the mech that is working on my car said that the GT3s and 996 Turbos were flawless. Maybe you should consider one of those if you are considering another 911.

the 99-01 996 gets a lot of sh*t, but if you look at the posts closely, the 02-04 have just as much problems... the 3.4 gets intermixes, the 3.6 gets the IMS.... but they are relatively low numbers....
If you can hold out.... 6gt3 are coming down in prices... esp that the 7.2gt3 is right around the corner. The GT1 block is a sweet machine!

I think i will have some patience, especially with this economy and hold onto the Z4 for now and keep a watch out for an upgrade from the 03 996 i had. Doesn't make sense to get the same thing again. Especially for what I know about problems with the 996's and some 997's. You're right: Turbo or GT3!!

you keep saying your underwater on this car
first of all,
You've already taken the brunt of 'underwater-ness', the prices aren't ever going to go back up.
1) you've taken the recession dip. Every car out there has lost value more than its supposed to be worth
2) the new z4 is already released so the old models will take an additional hit
3) no ones buying luxury cars in this market
the only choice you really have is, either take the beating ( i guess it would only be a few grand that you'd be out ) and get a 996 and enjoy it for the next 8 months or still with your z4 til another year or so until your not underwater.
its all about how bad you want the 996 or not
