I will do your procedure but I think I'll just remove the calipers entirely and paint them since I am getting ready to do a brake job in the next 4 or so weeks.

On a side note, if any one wants me to take pics of the procedure of replacing rotors, pads, and remounting the calipers and document any problems I encounter, let me know. I'd be happy to contribute to the knowledge base here. Tony

I removed the calipers as I was replacing pads and adding SS lines. It was much easier. Then did a complete flush of the fluid.

remember to prep real good (at least on the visbile parts)

Will do Jorge. When you removed the calipers, did you have to cork or tie of the brake lines so they would not drip fluid? Or do they drip for a bit and then stop?

What was your reasoning in adding SS lines? Do you feel any performance difference between regular lines and SS lines?

BTW Joel, how many spray paint, primer cans, and clear coat cans did you use?

One can for each: primer, yellow and clear. but the yellow, I would probably buy 2. I was running near to empty on the last caliper...

So, one can of primer, and clear and two cans of paint for each caliper?

yep, just let them drip (protect your garage floor though). They just dripped for a bit and then ceased. Since porsche brakes are very good, i only felt a slight improvement. The rubber hoses were near the end of their life......~10 years old. I used a Motul pressure bleeder with blue fuild (that way you'll see when the old yellow/brown fuild is out).

As for paint, i did ok with 4 color (get 5 just in case), 2 primer and 2 clear.

ps: it is a fun mod.

you know i can't rememeber where i got them from (it was a major retailer though). Do a search, you should be able to find them for 120 or so. When you change them out, you will destroy a clip that is not available for the 996. Sunset Porsche did a research for me and found they could get them......for a cayenne.....same part.

In my case, 1 can of primer, 1 can of clear and 1 can of yellow. for ALL 4 Calipers. 2 cans of yellow may help if you need more and you don't have to stop and go get more. Agin, for the whole set. These are the normal size spray paint cans, not the tiny ones.

i had to redo 2 of the calipers because the paint wrinkled on me, so hence the extra paint.

ZDR2K... Do you know what caused the wrinkleing? I want to make sure to avoid that. Had a similar problem when I tried to redo the brush on paint.

not sure. I am willing to bet it was the primer though. after sanding, make sure your are using quatlity automotive primer and give that can a go shake.
