Differential really noisy.....need opinions

Last year the transmission/differential started to make some noise and I'm fairly certain that it is the differential.
Symptoms are lot's of gear noise "off load" (foot off of gas pedal but in gear)
Some gear noise when coasting in neutral.

opinions needed on sensible and least expensive solution..........

1)Change transmission for
a) fully rebuilt
b) take a chance with transmission from junkyard

2)Have transmission stripped down and change ring, pinion and bearings in diff.

Thanks in advance
Pete

Did you ever solve this? I'm experianceing something similar off gas but it seems to be coming from the front diff. I've read somewhere that certain tires might cause this. I'm running continentals.

Hey Adam!
Actually should get car back end of this week. Ended up taking it to my Indy and we bought a second hand transmission froma junkyard and salvaged whatever parts were better in that one for the ones in mine except for the synchros and bearings which we bought new.
The noise was just too intrusive and taking away from the fun of driving the car.
I had old Conti's on last year and can't say that they were in any way the same kind of noise.
