Porsche or BMW
This is bull****, since the base Carreras don't have cylinder sleeves or liners, they can NOT breake loose. I think published opinions like this by socalled "mechanics" is the big problem, not the engines in Porsche, since many people takes this as the truth even if what is said here is not technically possible.
The illustration in that link is for a Boxster. The Boxster and Carrera share the same engine block.

I can't stand the interior lights of a BMW, but I also dislike orange lights. I realize this is the 996 forum, so that means nothing here with it being the same (i much prefer my 997 interior), but I would go with the BMW over the 996 myself in this case.
