Is it true that the 996 carrera engine cannot be rebuild if done by yourself?

False. A guy over on rennlist is doing it now for an intermix problem. He had a craked head.

would be more or less like this boxster engine rebuild. He's got a whole series of video on the rebuild on youtube

The real question is... Does Porsche want you to rebuild your engine on your own. The answer is no as they are not very forthcoming with how to do so. They want to do it themselves in their secret mad scientist laboratory.

So if you are super smart enough to figure it out pretty much with no OEM help, then ya, it can be done. Anything can with enough time and money...

check out L & N engineering...they do it...I have NO affiliation just use them for upgrades...
