i have a 2002 c2 facelift and i really want to put a turbo on it, if i bought the manifolds and turbos from a breaker off a 996 turbo, what else would i need? how hard would this be to do? the only kits i have seen are silly money

The 996 turbo engine is completely different from that in the NA 996 (different block, different heads, etc.). With turbo prices as depressed as they are now, you're much better off selling your car and buying a turbo.

Unfortunately the 996TT exhaust manifolds don't bolt to a NA 996 different pattern altogether.

Reusing the 996TT bits on a NA 996 means that you have to figure out where to shoehorn the 2 intercoolers and get some air to them. 996TT is widebody and has side inlets for that reason.

A place to get good ideas on what you need to do is look at how TPC has routed their single turbo for the Cayman. They keep it all at about 6-7psi and don't touch the internals. No different than the SC solutions for the 996.

For a single Turbo you need a custom exh manifold that joins both outlets to a Turbo baseplate adapter for the style of turbo you want to get (not too big). The Turbo, electronic wastegate, custom exhaust tubing to route the from the turbo outlet to the muffler, Air to air intercooler and assorted pressure tubing. Then a ecu tune on a dyno for a/f

Good luck.
