HID Bulbs Part 2

To continue the thread on another path that dgray996 started......

For the 99-01 996 with the litronics what is the best bulbs for as close to an exact match to the litronic for the high beam, "daytime running light", fog light, and side markers? (and not blue coated--trying to avoid the ricer look)

I am pretty sure the high beam and fog are H7, but not sure about the light that looks like a "daytime running light" that is yellow looking in the background when the litronics are on.

Any thoughts to bulb type and brand to achieve this?

Cheers,
Dell

Bulbs in the Litronic Headlight assembly chart for 99-01 996's and 96-05 986's. And these headlights are not Bi-Xenon.

Diped Beam/Low Beam - D2S 35W (Xenon) Stock it 4150K Temp.
Halogen High Beam - H7 55W
Fog Light - H7 55W
Parking Light Front (City Light) - H6W
Side Marker - W5W

Bulbs in the Litronic Headlight assembly chart for 01-05 996 Turbo's and 02-05 996's. These headlights are Bi-Xenon, with the shutter inside the projector.

Diped Beam/Low Beam - D2S 35W (Xenon) Stock it 4150K Temp.
Halogen High Beam - H11 55W
Fog Light - H3 55W
Parking Light Front (City Light) - H6W
Side Marker - W5W

Now to answer you question, try www.powerbulbs.co.uk try Sylvania Silver Stars and there is also Hoen Bulbs or something like that.

Do the Silvania Silver Stars burn the same color as the litronic light? I want to make sure that the litronic, high beam, and fog are all the same color. As of right now the high and fog light ( as well as that daytime running light that come son with the litronics) all burn yellow and the litronic is blueish white.

Why in the world would Porsche do that is beyond me???

One reason is cost, and possibly legality. First off the fog lights and highbeams are halogen and you will never get the color temperature of a Xenon lights the same without coating the bulb with a blueish color. Fog lights are what the name says they are. They are for inclement weather. Fog, rain, and snow as well as just supplement lighting. Yellow/whitish light or about 3200K light does better in rain and snow rather than a bluish/whitish light from a Xenon light 4150K. The city light is a very low wattage bulb so it is hard to produce a bulish light from that bulb without also coloring the bulb blue.

Silver Stars burn at 4000K very very close to the color temp of Xenon (H.I.D.) bulbs 4150K.

I probably never use the fogs but I am mainly concerned about the high beams, "city light", and the side markers.

Thanks for the info.
