my first post

hello everyone, glad to join the 996 club.

i just recently purchased a 1999 c4 tiptronic with low miles. black with tan interior. i have tinted the windows and im working on upgrading the audio system. ill post some pics soon. looking forward to being a part of the community.

as with any 1st time porsche owner, i have some questions. thanks to all those who can help me out.

1. well, i decided to get the car up to a 100. i was surpised as to the amount of floating the car did at this speed, is this normal?

2. everytime i start the car, the climate controls go back to 71 degrees with the compressor on. anyway to have this default to off?

3. the owner before me damaged the shift plate, the plate that has park, reverse, drive. what all is involved in removing this plate for replacement?

4. the car is black and has some scratches from a cat. what would be the best polish/wax or technique to fix these?

sorry for all the questions, im very excited. thanks to anyone who can help out and i look forward to making some new friends. im in the hampton roads, virginia area for anyone local.

Welcome. Enjoy your ride and ask questions later (j/k).

Do a search and some / all of your questions may have already been posted and answered before. Am pretty sure we have vendors (look on the right side of the screen) for the car part/s you need. Post pics of the scratches so they can be assessed by our expert detailers here.

I can pitch in on 1 & 4

1. well, i decided to get the car up to a 100. i was surpised as to the amount of floating the car did at this speed, is this normal?

Yes this is normal. U.S. cars are setup higher due to U.S. bumper regulations. This creates that "floaty" feeling at higher speeds. Can be remedied by lowering (preferably coilovers). Additionally you can add a splitter to the stock front bumper or go with an replacement bumper (i.e. Turbo bumper or aftermarket (i.e. TechArt replica (like me). These bumpers sit lower that the stock bumper and you can add bigger splitters to them to reduce lift on the front end. Of course once you add more downforce on the front you need to balance it with a bigger rear wing (and matching side skirts)...thus you start down the "Slippery Mod Slope"

4. the car is black and has some scratches from a cat. what would be the best polish/wax or technique to fix these?

Be aware that Porsche is notorious for a thin clearcoat. Being to aggressive in trying to get out scratches (especially on black) can lead to unsatisfying consequences. If you are new to the detailing game, I would take it to your local professional and let him get it "in shape". Then you can do the ongoing maintenance.
