Thinking about turboing a c2..

Question for you guys...I am thinking of buying a C2 on the cheap (crashed from the auction) I own a high end repair shop and we do body work so that is not the issue. The question is is that i would like to piece together a turbo kit for the C2, Have any of you guys had any experience with boost on a na Porsch other than a supercharger? Does any one know what kind of boost they are capeable of handling? How many people have done this. Intercooler placement may be a bit tricky as there are no real good ducts but i will figure something out. Just thinking out load right now so sorry for the rambling....TIA -Rob

I would recommend against it. I am sure there are more specialised individuals here that can tell you in great technical detail about why or why not. Basically, when you compare a regular c2 and a turbo engine, the internals differences are quite large to handle the differences in tolerances.

When you are dealing with a rear enginge configuration, heat is large issue, and when you compound that with what a turbo will do, you will need to accomodate for all issues as such...unless you don't mind severly reducing the life of your car. It's just not worth it in my opinion

TPC has been turbocharging the cayman which has a very similar engine, you should call them up.

This is how it's done, either with water-to-air or air-to-air IC:

why not just buy a cheap 996 turbo...there are a lot out there, and if you mind one that needs bodywork then you've really opened up your options to get a steal. I would bet you could get your hands on a 2001-2003 turbo with around 50k miles in the high $30's to low $40's. If you buy a really cheap NA 996 you'll pay around $18k and then spend at least another $10k doing what you're planning to do. And in the end you'll have a 996 'turbo' that will never retain its value and it will not have the better suspension, braking power, wide rear end, body styling, built in dash boost guage, etc that the slightly more expensive real turbo will have. I would get a fixer upper real turbo before trying to make a non turbo...... 'turbo'. just my 2cents. Good luck.

Perhaps he is looking for a sleeper. To each their own I say, we all have reasons for doing, some agree others don't in the end if it makes sense to you I say go for it...
