Rear Toe Links?
Rear Toe Links?
I want to add some greater than stock toe adjustability To the rear of my car to compensate for lowering it. I know these things are engineered with a lot of negative camber in the rear, but my tire wear in unacceptably favoring the inside tread since I lowered the car. I'm also sure the car would handle better with a flatter foot print. So, the first thing I thought of was a set of adjustable rear toe links. When I called one reputable suspension parts provider I was in shock over the price; a grand for these two things?
So, I looked into it a bit further and discovered some other options and a great disparity in price.
Here's an example from Tarret at $450.00 - less than half the unnamed racing car part provider. GMG has a virtually identical set for $100 more:

A further search on e-bay turned up these at $212.00 for the pair:

Now, any shot in the dark measure of good of business and safety sense would say to go with the Tarret setup at $450. Half the price of XYZ Racing's and about double the cheapest of the brand I never heard of.
But, I just can't help but wonder..... It's just a threaded hollow rod with a heim joint on either end. How much could it possibly cost to make a reliable version for a car that I'm never going to track? Are the materials and workmanship so inferior in the $200 version that they are at least two and four times more prone to catastrophic failure than the $450 and $1000 versions respectively? The $1000 version is lighter? By how much? A pound? Two pounds? Not an issue worthy of debate for me. All I want to do is safely add the toe adjustability I need since lowering my car so that I can get a proper alignment. Can't I get such a simple component for $212 or do I really have to spend at least twice that?
Further...
Do I also need the dog bone kit from GMG?

this is another $1000.00 from them. One again we're talking threaded tube and a pair of heim joints. I imagine if I check with the makers of the $200 toe joint they might also have a cheaper version of GMG's set. Bt again, same question about price and quality and safety. And, do I need them to fix my problem? Do I need both? Or do I not need the toe links and only need the dog bones?
Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Which way did you go?

the Tarret's are proven (track and street), easier to adjust and if you get the ecentric locking plates the rear will stay in alignment and you will get better tire wear...don't cheap out on suspension goodies...you can also look at GMG, RSS and TRG as they all make good toe links
