B & M SSK Problems
B & M SSK Problems
I was told by someone at a well known Porsche Tuning shop here in South Florida (will not mention names as a courtesy), that the B and M SSK is frowned upon by Porsche NA.
The recommendation was for me to buy their company's SSK rather than the one made by B & M.
They told me it messes with the synchros and an assortment of other junk. Is this legit?

Buy the B&M. Takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours for a newby to install. Great mod, best bang for the buck.
There are tons of them installed and I've never heard of a tranny problem due to them. Don't waste your money on paying up for the identical Porsche part.

My tt had the semi-common problem of popping out of second gear. Porsche is replacing the entire transmission with a brand new unit, which would cost $8k if it wasn't covered by warranty. I have a strong feeling Porsche wouldn't have been so cooperative if I had a non-Porsche SSK.

No, I'm having the shifter installed at the same time as the transmission. But the dealer's service manager basically told me that a non-Porsche SSK would void the warranty on the transmission. Obviously one could fight that ruling and perhaps win if you could prove the SSK did not cause whatever problem the tranny was experiencing, but who needs that hassle?
I had the BM in my car, zero problems. I replaced it with the identical porsche unit to avoid warranty issues myself. Remember, the G50 tranny is a nonservice item, if something goes wrong, 8K replacement cost.
I still don't know if I did the right thing.

That's BS to sell you some overpriced part and rip you off to install it.
I've got aluminum pedals on my car, I hope nothing ever goes wrong with the motor or they'll reject the claim by that logic...

Hey, to each his own. All I know is, if anything happens to my tranny, I want to be able to point to the dealer and say "you ****ed it up, you fix it." And I'll pay $500 for that right.
They should have a FAQ section on this board, this question comes up every month!
BTW, if I had it to do over again, I'd leave the GD BM in the car!
FDB, I hear you, you gotta do what you gotta do.
