Tips on eliminating tapping "lifter noise" even using mobil 0W-40

Guys,
looking to sell car and the potential buyer is scared of the tapping/ticking sound. I've been told the noise is due to running thin/thick oil. Could it be something else?

Thanks

Replace the Mobil 0W40 with a better oil, such as 5W50, or preferably, Mobil 15W50 whether you have lifter noise or not. Other possible cause of similar noise could be a small exhaust leak, arching ignition coil, bad belt pulley, or cracked spark plug.

Thanks 1999! Will bump up to the 5W50 first and see what happens.

I would also suggest not using Mobil 1 and use Motul Oil, which contains the most needed additives.

Thanks Griff, I even tried going with royal purple that the mechanic recommended and the ticking went away for a few days but came back. Will look into the Motul.

Did you try RP 10w40 or even 20w50? Or even RP 10w40 with a couple quarts of RP 20W50? RP has been working wonders for me.

Gee, I think it was the RP 10w40, but will double check. Never thought about mixing in the 20W, but might be the right ****tail mix to get rid of the ticking. thanks!
