Anyone have any failures after IMS and RMS replacement?
Anyone have any failures after IMS and RMS replacement?
This might have been covered elsewhere already but I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone having an engine failure after the IMS and RMS had been replaced? I know some recommend changing these every 40-50k miles as a preventative measure.
I believe you are referring to IMS and RMS seal replacement. It is the IMS bearing or retaining bolt that usually fails. Many if not most have had the seals replaced. There is a aftermarket IMS bearing, but few have done it.

I can see from a warranty perspective why they would want to save some $ and just do the seal if they have to front the cost. But out of warranty service, I can't see how anyone would not pay the extra $72 for the flange as well just for some reassurance while it's apart.
It's like not changing out the throw out bearing while you're doing a clutch job imo...
Am I missing something?
