Should I replace my RMS?
Should I replace my RMS?
I am replacing my clutch and flywheel this weekend (after pressure plate failure). A notice on PelicanParts.com (where I sourced my parts) said to replace the RMS at the same time so I bought one. Now that the flywheel is off, I don't see any sign that the seal is leaking or seeping. Should I replace it anyway? And why do clutches have such a short life span in these cars? Mine is a ’99 C2 with 59k miles and it looks like this clutch has been replaced before!
If the RMS isn't leaking, I wouldn't change it, but if you decide to change it go with the OEM Porsche part.
Porsche did a CPO on my car in Sept of 2007, with it being the 45K service, changed the RMS because it was leaking, and changed the clutch out at 45K also.

agreed. Don't replace it if its not leaking. You dont want to cause a problem. If the vehicle gets daily attention from you it shouldn't leak, the leaking issue is more common on cars that sit most of the year
