Lightweight Flywheel Question

I need to change the clutch in my 2000 C2 cab and I found a good deal on a lightweight flywheel. Will this cause problems down the road due to not having the dampening of the dual mass flywheel?
Are people still running lightweight flywheels with no problems?
Thanks,

Tony

There seem to be many owners running LWFW with out major problems and many of them love the LWFW. Some chatter and more finesse is starting up.

The other side is the lake of harmonic dampening. You really need to balance the system to avoid this. In talking to Jake Raby he once told me that every broken crank he had seen was on an engine that had a LWFW. I don't think broken cranks are very common, but they seem to be related to the LWFW's.

Is anyone out there running a LWFW now? How many miles? Can you feel any added vibration from the motor?

Tony, I have the Aasco LWFW on my 99 996. I absolutely love it. I have about 3,000 miles on it. No additional vibration. If you are doing other mods to your car, I would highly recommend it. If your exhaust is stock, it is going to be fairly loud on a cab. It revs up like a sport bike. It is no more difficult to drive than stock.

Mark, I have done quite a few mods already including a supercharger and Fabspeed mufflers. I'm not really worried about noise but I thought using a sprung clutch reduced the chatter. Is that not true? I've been looking at the Spec stage 1 clutch.
I keep seeing things about breaking the crankshaft by installing the LWFW, it's got me a little concerned.

Tony, it sounds like the LWFW would be perfect for you. I have the SPEC stage 2+ spring centered clutch on mine. I went with the strongest clutch that was suitable for the street, in case I went with forced induction later. The clutch is perfect...no different than stock. The noise is only noticeable when the car is in neutral, with the clutch not engaged. Once you depress the clutch, the noise is gone. I also read that the spring centered clutch would reduce the noise. It probably is not any worse than the whine from your blower...once you know what it is from, it is kind of cool...like a muscle car with a gear drive.

I researched every article and post I could find on the LWFW for over a year, before I pulled the trigger. Go for it. You will love it. The only documented case of a crankshaft failure possibly related to a LWFW, that I have read about, was posted by Jake Raby. It was on a car that had an incredible amount of track only miles.

Sharkwerks has a video on their website of a 99 996 with a LWFW (project white shark).

Thanks Mark, it makes me feel better hearing someone running this setup with no problem. I actually bought the flywheel a while back, really good deal. I've just been waiting for my clutch to give out (77,500 on the original) to replace it. I guess its about the same as everyone saying don't supercharge cause your engine will blow. At least I hope its all a scare.
