Security/Stereo Info for MY 99

I removed the interior of a 99' 996 to have the stereo trim body matched with the console. I took the head unit out to do this, and I have heard about needing a security code to get it to work again. The car does not have a manual so it is missing the code. So my question is do I really need it to get it to work again?
Thanks

Yes if you have the OEM head unit you will need the security code. You can get it from a dealer, or Becker, or do a search I think there are some members who know how to get them.
