Replacing Hood Crest

I got a silver hood crest from Eric at Bumper Plugs, and am just having a heck of a time figuring out how to get the original gold crest off the hood. (Installing the new crest would seem to be a snap because of the speed nuts included.) There are, of course, two holes inside the hood, and some kind of nuts or something holding the crest on. I can't seem to get a fix on what kind of nuts or connectors these are, even with a mighty bright Maglite flashlight shining into the holes. (I am 66 years old, and admittedly not as flexible as I used to be -- at least not in terms of bending and twisting to look up into these two little holes.) I am sure this is a no-brainer, and I apologize in advance for even asking the question -- but if any of the very accomplished folks here have any advice, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, there are held on with 2 speed nuts and I think they are 8mm and socket will remove them. You can feel when the socket is on the nut by feel and proper socket and dont forget lefty loosey ... righty tighty.

Not sure if it's the same for the 996, but here you go.

Not sure of the size but you have the new nuts to go by...the best tool is a short nut driver with the proper socket...keep the hood at an angle where the hood crest is parallel with the ground so you don't lose the nut inside the hood...dont press hard on the nut and it will back off and stay in the socket....if you press hard it will keep pushing on the post and not come off...takes five minutes with the right tool

Wow. Such fast help -- and on Thanksgiving night, too! Thank you, thank you, to both of you.
