New owner - Have a leak already?

Hi Everyone,

New owner of a blue 2001 911 c4 cabriolet with hard top. 32k miles. Just picked it up from a porsche dealer...

Love it, but quick Q...

After driving and parking for an hour or two (or overnight) I notice what looks like water dripping out of the rear, right behind the rear tire. It is not oil, nor coolant from what I can tell, but water? It is not much, only a small half dollar size little puddle...but it grows overnight so I know it is a continuous leak. (And no I haven't driven thru rain or anything).

Any ideas?

The most common issue with a 996 C2 is a leaking reservoir expansion tank. Generally leaks above driver's rear exhaust pipe. I realize you stated water, but check your tank level for good measure. The coolant level should sit between the maximum and minimal mark. Plenty of discussion on this forum. With that said, another less known issue is a clogged water drainage hose. There are a few throughout the P-car. This would be the lesser of the two evils. And, hopefully your remedy. Good luck.

Thanks - but I researched that and the issue is that this leak is on the passenger side, not the drivers side. Its just behind the right rear wheel. Maybe a clogged water drainage hose then?

Any other ideas?

Maybe. Hopefully, the draining will cease once it clears. Try jacking the P-car up on the opposite side to see if it helps removing any excess water. Good luck. Off to work. Got to finish paying for mine.

The drains on a cab are in front of the rear wheels.

Thanks Dharn, but that just adds to the mystery, this leak is just behind the wheel on the outermost edge. I'll try to take a picture to help...

How many posts do I need to add a pic?
