Should I be worried? Is this an issue

Hey,

Tonight, the car suddenly started revving differently. I am not sure how to best explain it, but (i) the car is slower going into first and (ii) the car would rev less relative to the speed i was going. For example, usually in first, i would be at 3000 rpm by 12mph, and now it would go to 3000rpm only at 20mph. Same for all the gears, 2nd gear would go to around 30mph before hitting 3000rpm when it used to hit 3000rpm at around 20mph.

I am a complete newbie -- is this a clutch issue? What, if anything should I be concerned about? It's also veyr cold here in NY, and the car is not garaged.

Thanks!

My 1998 C2 manual will hit 70mph at 7200rpm in second, so around 30mph at 3000rpm sounds OK to me. To confirm this, have a look at the user manual diagram showing speed/rpm in the different gears.

If the indicated rpms are lower than they should according to the diagram, there might just be an electrical issue.

Thanks, but it's not about the speed/rpm ratio. My concern is that the feel of the clutch changed. It seems that out of nowhere the gears seem to be lighter and require a shift at much higher speeds than before. Maybe I am not explaining it right....for example from a full stop i need to hold the clutch longer to get into first. Does this make sense?

Cold temps can certainly have an effect on your car until everything is warmed up, which will give parts such as a clutch a little different feel. When I took the turbo out of the garage yesterday(car sat for two weeks) it felt a bit sluggish the first 10 minutes or so and then returned to normal.

Yes, this is perfectly OK. It will feel normal again once warmed up properly.

I agree with the temperature change. It has a big impact until the car is warmed up. What out if the tires are cold...back end can get "loose"
