Porsche 917/30 Replica.

This is my dream..but i just wanna run it by you guys and see what you think..

Ive been a fan of the 917/30 for as long as i can remember, ive been in love with that car for as long as ive had cognitive thoughts.

Just the idea that something that brutally powerful came out 30 something years ago is astonishing to me..

The fact that they pushed outwell over 1000 horses out of the engine is even more impressive.

Well, ive been thinking..can it be replicated?

Not replicated as much as improved.

Think about it, we have had 35 years to improve on the design, technology and everything that the car was.

1100BHP back in the early 70s..flat 12 5.4 liter TT, im sure as hell that it can be improved on.

Has anyone even thought of making a possible replica of the car? but with an upgraded engine?

Such as 2 3.6 designed into a flat 12 to make a 7.2 liter TT?

I wanna get your thoughts on this matter.

Ive got quite a bit of cash on me right now, im buying another car soon, but im gonna have some cash to play around with for a longer term project. I know it's ridiculous..but it can be worth a shot just to investiage this a bit..

this project sounds absolutely CRAZY. I love it. Since this is your dream to do this, no need to get approval here. Go for it, especially if you have the means to do so. Good luck!

Do you have any pics of the car?

Hehehe..

No, i dont have any pics of anything..the only thing ive been looking into right now is making a 7.2 Liter block at my friend's college..cause he's taking automotive courses, and they actually have the equipment to create the block..

Ive been looking around, seems to me, the only expensive items are a gonna be the fuel system, the internals and the turbo..

The body, the frame, the wheels..the suspension i can get killer deals on anyways.

Very cool idea. But...been done. There is an Excellence article out there about a guy in CA who collects parts from 917's. He actually found an original UNUSED chassis frame and built a "brand new" 917. It ran on the Daytona Course at Rennfest last year. Very, VERY cool.

There's a 917K replica for sale at
http://www.fantasyjunction.com/searc...com:auto:FJ111

I work across the street from this place and drop by at least once a month and drool over their collection.

Most of what you want is already available. Kraftwerkz

I've been on track with one their cars. It is very beautiful, extremely well made and quite fast with a 3.8RS spec motor (a mere 360HP or so, sub 2000#). I'm afraid, however, that as fabulous as the car is, the reality is it would likely scare the crap out of you and if it didn't, it would probably kill you, much as it did with several talented racers back in the day. These cars were not designed as road cars, you're feet are way up in the nose and safety wasn't the priority then that it is today. Hit anything nose first and you'd likely never walk again. It was and is a pure track car, and even at that, it really takes someone very fairly special (read nuts) to drive it, in spite of the reduced HP.

Heres a link to the NCR monthly magazine which contains an article on the car I ran with:
