DD going on a year

I have using my 996 Targa as a DD for 3/4 of a year now. It is a wonderful greeting each morning in my garage versus the Acura RL it replaced. I have not had any mechanical issues up to 23K miles on the odometer. Its such a low mileage car I was worried she might break with daily drive. So far, so good.

The biggest issue for me is not mechanical or even financial, it is keeping her in as good a shape. I do not have a ding or scratch and parking around the east bay is a pain in the butt. Too many SUV and Minivan drivers to survive w/o door ding. Kids love the car but their doors love it more.

Insurance on the 911 was the same as the Acura granted the later was a 2008 and the 911 is a 2003. Oil change was nothing big. Have not done much more to the car as I think it looks great stock. Would love to lower it a bit but that, as the forum notes, is a slippery slope.

I drive my C4S every day. It's great in rain and snow (as long as it's not too deep). It has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. It does have the occasional issue, just like you'd expect from any car with 95,000 miles on the clock. When it goes to the shop, it's not cheap. That's just part of Porsche ownership. Even so, it's a great daily driver and I'd highly recommend it.

I use my 2002 996 (which is speed yellow too!) for DD duty. 500 miles every week. Right now 140,000 miles. From Miami to Ft Lauderdale every day, rain, shine or hurricane season. Went with Geico for insurance for a ridiculously low rate of $119 a month for two vehicles fully insured.

I'm looking for the same in a base 996, no frills.

What was the cost of the rebuild?

What are typical issues that arise? RMS/IMS what are these things? Would they have already happened on a 50K mile 996?

stock tire replacement intervals/cost, oil change interval/cost, ...and so forth. Sorry for all the questions, i just dont want to end up crying and feeling all dirty on the side of the road from being wallet raped.
JEEP Just Empty Every Pocket.... I have a 98
Wrangler that I'm modding since I picked up my '03 C4S as my daily driver. Love driving this car. However, the VF Supercharger kit may trump my Wrangler mods. No problems with my pcar. Bought a scissor lift and do all the maintenance myself. Easy to work on the pcars.

What do you C2 guys think about the snow? I know the rear engine and snow tires is more than adequate to plow through the winter, just seeing if the C4 is a better option for a daily platform

@rn3037... A little snow doesn't do much more to this car than any other rwd car... But if and when you do slip the tail out, it snaps back like no other car... I would go turbo if you want all wheel, otherwise I think the c2 kills it!

@Jeff - Yea I bet the P will be more forgiving due to the engine over the axle. Good luck with yours that's awesome to drive it everyday! And I know it's not really necessary to get the AWD just in case it snows a couple days out of the year. I don't walk around with an umbrella in case it rains.

No snow with the C2. Forget it. I have one. I live in a place with snow in winter. C4. Or, turbo of course.

We daily'd ours for a couple years.

Isn't that what they're made for?

I wouldn't worry too much about insurance - 996 C2's are going for around $15-25k now. I can't imagine the premiums are too high anymore.
