New owner just saying hello..
Just joined a few weeks ago myself.... looking to use the info on here to help out with some interior projects....adding some of that silver as well and I have to remove a bad carbon fiber stick on kit. Welcome...so far everyone has been very nice on this forum. Better than most others I have been on.
Welcome and congrats on your first Porsche 911. There are many links to the right on this website that will help modify your 996. Check out Rennlist.com, Renntech.com, and PelicanParts.com for other forums with good info.
Congratulations! Love that Metropol Blue interior. I, too have a low-mileage 2002 (bought mine with 13K miles last July, now have close to 16.5K miles). Yes, the IMS thing can be a bit of a monkey on our back, but hey, drive it and enjoy it--that's why we got them in the first place, right? As already mentioned in other replies to your thread, just be ultra-vigilant about changing your oil and keeping an eye out for leaks. And by all means, take it out on the track! Once you try it, you'll be addicted. If I had the time, I'd be out on the track every day. Mine hasn't blown up yet
!
Have fun!
P.S. There's nothing wrong with liking Bimmers!

Enjoy your ride, don't worry about the IMS just change the oil every 3000 miles if you drive every day change the oil your self and look for oil lick I have 2000 C4 with turbo install running strong i change the oil every 6 months or every 1000 miles i just drive weekends.
Hey, you've got great taste in cars! I had a 2008 335xi, thankfully was spared from the fuel pump issues often found with that twin turbo motor. Hope you've had as much luck. As great as they are though, a 3 just doesn't offer the gratification of a 911 IMHO!
Great looking rig! It looks like your lights are very different than my 99 C4's. Did you purchase the OEM litronic replacements or an aftermarket kit? The reason I ask is the plastic cover doesn't have the fogginess that comes on most 996's. By fog, I don't mean haze from UV rays, I mean the intentional fog from the factory.
Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply. As for the headlights they are completely stock housings (Non-Litronic). They looked brand new when I bought the car (crystal clear) so I had them covered with 3M clear bra to keep them that way. In the world of used cars this one was special. Original 68 year old owner that only took it to the golf course and back.
The risk I took is the "sitting 996" where the car sits too long. I had the oil changed last summer and the oil and filter all looked perfect (thankfully).
Mods: Full Audio Upgrade, Window Tint, Aluminum Pedals, Xenon/HID headlights

Ello! I am a noob 2! I just bought my 'first' Porsche a couple weeks ago - Had to install a new clutch, flywheel, and RMS inthe first 48 hrs (but I'm taking that dealer to court). I too have had a a bunch of worry over the IMS. I come from a long line of mechanics (think 'My cousin Vinny') and in the end, the Porsche dealership replaced all the gaskets and I will change my oil every 3000. It's worth it 2 me. I spend more than that getting my hair done every 6 weeks
So I'm just filing it under "girl maintence"
. I cannot get behind doing the LN thing for 2% of 996's having failure. Those reg oil changes will keep my eyes on any changes. Mine is a 2001 Carrera 4 Cabriolet w 36 k and I'm the 2nd owner. I love this car. I used to be a Big Block girl (No replacement for displacement
But this sweetheart growls and runs perfect. I will keep tuned in to you other noobs
I hope to learn a lot, and keep her as close to stock as I can. My only replacement for right now is the LCD temp screen.

If I had the car apart for the clutch job I would say replace the bearing due to free labor. I won't do the bearing by itself though. My car probably won't need a clutch for a while. I do my best to perfectly rev match and put as little stress on it as possible.
Looking at getting the IMS guardian and never thinking about again
The only "had to have it" mod was the head unit. I went to a double din unit that gives me bluetooth for my phone, USB flash drive and Ipod control. It modernized the interior too, looks stock enough to not offend and is completely reverseable to boot.
Good luck with yours!
