I love Top Gear, Jeremy's hatred of the 911 is comical! I took the car on a long highway drive, and got it up to 17Mpg! Now thats progress

This should make us 996 owners feel good. Look around the 1:30 mark.

With some on you getting 19 and over its hard to believe there is such a discrepancy between cars.

I do a lot of stop'n'go driving around town, and with the occasional hard acceleration I can easily get 15mpg. In winter the standard is more around 11... Oh, and a gallon of 98 unleaded over here is around 10 usd.

Compared to the average wage in Norway it isn't that bad. But cars and the use of cars is still quite expensive due to a socialist government and high car related taxes. If I want to buy a car from Sweden I have to pay for the car naturally, and when I import it: Taxes. First 25% VAT, then a car specific tax that is determined by the weight of the vehicle, how big the engine is, horsepower and how much CO2 it puts out. Bigger is more expensive. Last year I paid 80 600 usd for my '98 996...

Not bad but I think I have all you beat with an avg of 19-23.7 city and highway 25.4 to 28.8 spirited driving all the time. Tire pressure and upkeep has a lot to do with it. Also took out the rear seat backs everything helps.

After swapping winter tires to summer tires (265 at back) my mpg went up from 17.5 to 18.5. Then I changed the back from 265 to 295 but mpg went up again to 19.5
The only mod I did during the time is PSE hacked mufflers during the swap from winter to summer. Isn't wider tires will lower your mpg?

Yes that is correct because the tires have a wider contact patch with a wider tire adds more weight slightly.
