Quick Tire Fitment Question

This should be a relatively easy one - I am buying new rubber for aftermarket rims on my 01 996. The existing tires were put on by the PO and I don't believe they are the optimum size. The aftermarket rim sizes differ a little from OEM and are the following:

Front: 18 x 8.5 - 52 mm offset
Rear: 18 x 10 - 63 mm offset

Would you recommend I still go with the OEM tire sizes (front 225/40 and rear 265/35)? Thanks in advance for your response -

Jeremy

If you bump both section heights up 10mm (235; 275), the tires will fill the rims aesthetically better. Yet, your speedo will change slightly: 60mph = 59mph. I personally went for the aesthetic approach. A more aggressive look. Nonetheless, OEM (225; 265) is suffice.

Thanks very much - it has also been suggested on another forum that I bump up. There seems to be some disagreement whether I will have rubbing in the fronts with a 235 and 8.5" rim - any thoughts? Thanks again.

Hard to say about rubbing on the F. A test fit is the best option when making any change. You should also spec out a 285/30R18 for the R - that was the size for 2002 and I think it should fit and stay within the proper height to not effect the speedo.

Its all about wheel diameter. Front OEM is 25.08". 235/40/18 is 25.40" (60mph=59mph). Truth be told, I am running 245/35/19 (25.75"; [60mph=58mph]) on a 8.5 up front. Absolutely no rubbing issues. FYI, the rear is far more forgiving; ie: 275 (my current size) -295 no issues.
