Let me tell you about cash. I brought a 964 cash. Went to my bank and pulled it out in $100's. Drove 1/4 mile to Chase. They counted it in the counting machine and then checked it about 4 times. Put it in the draw and gave me a receipt for the deposit in the seller account. Two days later I got a call from the seller telling me her bank called her and said that 1 of the $100 dollar bills was fake. I told her no way. I went straight from my bank to hers and that they checked it over 4 times.

I ended up winning due to the fact that the bills were still wrapped in the bank tape and that i had a receipt from my bank for the withdrawal.

I would agree that either a wire transfer or a bank check would be the way to go.

(Bank Check/ Cashiers Check) let it clear your bank 1-3 days and its good. Wire transfers can be reversed. Ive read so many horror stories online about people being ripped off in car sales.

Seems like you don't really need to worry that much (especially if the buyer is local). Scams are usually to get money rather than cars. In other words, a typical buyer is probably more worried than the seller -- "what if I send the money and I don't get the car and can't find the guy?" If the buyer wanted to basically steal a car, there are a lot easier ways to do that then through an elaborate scam (especially one that would involve passing counterfeit bills).
