High Beams 2001 Carrera 911

High beam stem on steering wheel when pulled back (blink mode) will make high beams function and dashboard icon to light. However, If stem is pushed forward for constant high beams, it stays in that position(which is expected) but no high beams come on nor does the dashboard light come on. Any suggestions other than to take to dealer for repair? Will spraying contact area and cleaning a posssible fix?
Thanks

Sounds like a defective switch to me. Unfortunately, the entire switch assembly will need to be replaced if this is the case, including the turn signal, wipers and cruise controls. I just had mine done because the multi-function display control failed. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it - seems like it was in the $500 neighborhood installed.

High Beams

Hardly use the high beams. Guess I can get away with just holding the stem back if needed. Is it needed for inspection?

+1 defective switch

I had a defective headlight dash switch in my '03 Targa. Dealer said the switch has a high fail rate in the 996, I would imagine that the stalk isn't any different. Mind cost about $300 to fix.

Prior posts have me wondering. Have only driven the car in the dark about 3 times. Since I have only owned the car 2 months, the few times i needed headlights, i have turned swith to on position and then need to put **** out for headlights to come on. Perhaps the problem is in the switch and not the high beam stem. Can anyone with a 996 class turn on lights , pull out switch and THEN see if stem will initiate high beams? Guess I need to run into another 996 on the street and compare notes
