Help needed in purchasing a 2001 911 Carrera
Hello all,
First time posting but have been visiting this forum for a while now. I am excited to have a reason to post.
I am looking at a 2001 911 Carrera. It has 37,000 miles on it and the dealer is asking $30,975. It has the factory aero package and techquipment alloys. The carfax shows it to be a clean car.
My questions are:
(1) The car is located at a dealership 1000 miles away from where I am. Would it be safe to contact a local mechanic to check the car?
(2) What do you experts think about the asking price?
(3) Anything specific I should be looking for or ask regarding the 2001 model?
The 911 has been my dream car but I have never owned a Porsche before. Any help will be truly appreciated.

That price is about 5 grand over what the current market is. Make sure you get a PPI done on the car from a local Independent service provider. It will cost you between 200-300 but will tell you what state the car is in.
strat10 and function12 - thank you for your responses. I have looked around quite a bit online but can't seem to find a better deal. I also pulled up the kbb value and it is right around $32k from a dealer. I have also called a Porsche dealer and a local Porsche mechanic to perform a PPI. If we agree on the price, I will certainly get the car checked out by the Porsche dealer.
KKB pricing is way off. You need to look on autotrader.com or cars.com to see what asking rpice on these cars is. Again these prices will be ASKING price not selling. You can also call your local credit union and see what loan value would be. Just don't pay more than that.
That price is way too high. However, it's just an asking price. Offer $25k subject to PPI. That car should sell for $25k. Check nada.com trade in so you know roughly what the dealer paid. Then offer just under that amount. Then settle so they make a grand or so. The asking price is just for suckers. In particular with cars like Porsches they put high asking prices waiting for people that have always dreamed of owning one and can finally afford it. Don't fall in love with that one car as there dozens out there. Also, don't look at Porsche dealer prices as they are off the chart high. Even carmax sells cars cheaper than Porsche dealers and I usually think of carmax as pretty expensive. Anyway, have fun with the search and don't jump in without some research.
That price would be more for a 2002 and later because of the 3.6 engine. That being said, if you love the car, and can afford it, go for it, and enjoy the hell out of it!
