kelly blue book gives 2002 C4S with 14000 miles in excellent condition only 60,000 in a private party sale. however, most cars similar are listed anywhere from 65-70,000 on autotraders. dealer ask for even more (75000) for somthing similar.... what is deal, is KBB way under on the pricing?

 

Many options pricing models are incorrect or not taken into account in base pricing at kbb or other sites.

Plus listees often believe the cars are worth far more than the market will bear.

 

Or are so stuck in them that they can't sell for less.

With the market taking such a dive alot of people are buried in the car.

kenny, how is your searching process? i am stepping up a little to really try to find one. i think part of me would just want to get a 997S.....

anyway, i found a 02 C4S silver/black with 13000 miles, factory SSK, alum package, bose, CD changer, and ROW suspension pack. he is only asking for 65.7 and in redondo beach. let me know if you are interested, i can e-mail you his info. i am going to go look at it tomorrow....... but i will let you have it so i can buy it in 6 months from you for 55k...

 

lol you bastard. i want to get rid of the M3 and S4 before I get a Porsche. That way I can make the Porsche the weekend car and just drive my daily to work. Plus having 4 cars is probably not too great of an idea right now.

I'm pretty sure I want an 01 Turbo, but the C4S are pretty tempting as well. My buddy told me an 04 slate grey (custom color) C4S with 3000 miles that had a sticker of 99K sold for 71K. God that is so ridiculous. We should buy from out of state

 

so now i am told that trying to lease a used C4S is actually same price as a used turbo given the residual difference. so this is getting very confusing:

1. get the C4s, as i have dream of having one for past 4 years
2. get a used turbo since it's the same price
3. get a new 997S or no S, which will have be 2-300 dollars more per month, which is not that bad, and get a brand new car.

KBB is generally right on for lower more mass produced cars than a porsche, but if very off price for these kind of cars as they do not take the options correctly into account(i.e. Bose vs HiFi, Leather seats vs Full Leather, or Sports Suspension vs Stock for example). These options can add up and change the cost of the vehicle alot(for example a C2 cost is around 70k for a base new and most wind up close to 80-90k or more).

I believe Nada has a book that does list these options(I don't think their web site does though)

The worst part of KBB, is that some people believe them and let their cars go for much less then they should which does artifically bring the price down for those who cannot wait for their vehicles to sell to a person who is very familar with porsche and their many many pages of available options. If you can get a deal on a car like this then go for it, but don't really expect to pay what KBB says for a porsche unless it's stripped.

 

Corey, unfortunately (or fortunately)--depending on if you're the buyer or seller), options have very little to do w/resale value. I once bought a Lexus LS sedan w/the Ultra Luxury package (Mark Levinson stereo, ventilated seats, air conditioned area for canned drinks, etc)....that option is 16k in the new market, and zero in the used market. When I bought my C4S, they tried hyping me with option values, and as soon as I made my speech about no value in the used mkt, they crumbled...so I got a pretty well equipped '03 C4S, 7500 miles, for 66k.....

The car being discussed in this thread is overpriced. Be patient, and you'll get it, or another like it-- cheaper!!!

 

75000 on that car is impossible. I sold my 04 C4S Cab through a broker to a Porsche dealership for 85K. The car had 3100 miles, was well optioned . I was lucky.

Yes there are good deals out there, but options do add to the value of cars like these. For example if a C2 has full leather vs. standard leather it's worth nearly as much as the sticker cost of full leather since it's usually a make or break option(Though not according to KBB). On a porsche with pages and pages of options(I'm on my 4th new one), some add value and some take away value.

BTW, I had a 2000 Jetta a few years ago that KBB said was worth 15k(Back in 2002, The dealer offered me 13k for a trade in on it for my wife's audi). I sold it for NADA pricing(which included a real listing of the options in the vehicle) which at the time was 21k.

The problem is many people believe the KBB price, especially since they have a web site, and this does artifically bring down the price of the vehicles unless you are firm about resale and are informed. As a buyer, I would check Nada because if the owner has, that means he is right on. Also you can try to use KBB price as a negociation tactic (what I call low balling), but also know the real value/cost (Trust me my customers do this all the time in the software business, and depending on how bad I need the deal I may cave)

As for good deals, of course you can get them for below KBB, you just need a motivated buyer(i.e. their 997S just came in and they need the cash for the downpayment, or the infamous divorce sale)
