center console lid w/cup holder

Well i bought my 996 a couple months ago, and the guy before me put a cup holder in, that attaches to the top of the center console lid, and when i bought it, and VERY QUICKLY looked through the installation manual that came with it, it said something about adhesive. SO i've left it on there, but would LOVE TO have this removed. It's DIRECTLY in the path of my elbow when i shift and i hate it. ANy ideas on how to get this off without ruining the lid, it IS full leather so i looks to be about a $700 cover if i had to buy a new one...

Any help would be great!

An old trick I have used to remove vehicle badges without ruining the paint may apply. 1) With a blow dryer, apply hot air to the area between the cup holder and the console lid; about two minutes to heat up adhesive. 2) Using dental floss, slowly pry or slice through the adjoining area. 3) Using rubbing alcohol, remove any excess adhesive from the affected area. 4) Using a microfiber towel, apply the appropriate restoring leather product. Just my two cents. Good luck.

Be careful... I have been doing lots of work removing the leather from the interior trim so I can replace it with CF. The secret to getting the leather to come off really easily is to heat it up a bit with a hair dryer - sound familiar??? Watch out where you put the heat and what you pull on once it's hot.

yeah it seems kinda risky. maybe i can dab a little rubbing alcohol down in there and hopefully it'll loosen the adhesive... it has to go. i don't mind the cup holders, but i'd rather be able to drive.
