Torque converter leaking, need new one

My 01 996 C2 tip with 65K had a slow transmission leak, it started really leaking, not a few drops but a small stream was pumping out. I took it to my local indy. The torque converter has a small crack that is leaking pretty bad. I was able to see it and feel the crack with my fingernail. Sunset quoted me 1,200 for a new one. None are in the country and it needs to come from Germany, 2-5 weeks!! No one I talk to has heard of one going bad, my luck. They checked the RMS and it looks great. I wonder if I should have them replace it anyways with the new and improved one or just leave it alone since it's not leaking.

Anyone know where to get a torque converter and is a used one an option. Thanks for you help.

I think the part is 996.316.001.01

Suncoast price seems fair, unfortunately.

Specialized repair places, they might have them. Not sure if cheaper though:

For second hand, you can try ladismantler, or Oklahoma foreign. They might have a used one, if you want to go that route. Also, how much are you going to save? If you get it for half, it is $700, plus installation which will let's say another $1k. Then, instead of $2,5k you would be at $1,800... not a lot of savings when you factor the labor. I am not sure about the labor cost I just threw in 10 hours @ $100/h for the sake of the example. At this point, is probably better go with the Suncoast one, new. I also believe the newer ones are updated/reinforced.

I hope this helps.

Sorry Chuck, did not realize about links. Regarding links to tip repair places, as far as I know, no sponsor fixes them. I have a tip and asked around before.
