Alternator removal

Can someone provide detailed explanation of alternator removal from 2002 996? Pelican Parts forum has excellent description except what to do if alternator doesn't fully clear exhaust plumbing. Alternator moves up and down after removing 2 bolts but top of it hits the plumbing. Can't get enough room/ clearance to get alternator out. Please help!!!!

never did this repair myself but I am curious as to the answer. Which part of the exhaust will you need to remove for the alternator to clear?

The exhaust is really easy to remove. Could have them off and that part out by the time someone get's you an answer. Did you try Renntech.org? They always have great information on there.

I don't know because I wouldn't try. I would take it to the dealer for part replacement. But let us know how it goes.

I've changed out my alternator before and its really not that hard. Just have to remove the Sep. belt and all of the airbox. after that, take the bolts out and once all the bolts are out, its should slide out or with a pry bar. there are directions on here and on rennlist.org. check it out there.
