Swamped car dies
New memeber on this forum but im a member of a few other hobbie forums, but this is my first post on one for my car. so glad to be apart of it with my ol 996
A little backround on what happend. i was driving my carrera on the highway during a downpuour, all was fine until a big excursion passes me on my right, right through what was a lake on the highway. needless to say my car was swamped by a wave.
right after this my car started acting very strange and puttering, i pulled off the high way to a gas station and the car died. it will start but does a puttering and bog and wont stay idling or have enough power to get moving.....towed home.
i let it sit for a day and had my brother start the car while i looked at the exhaust/engine.
more puttering bogging and black smoke coming from the exhaust, i also put my hand over it an noticed alot of condensation instantly form on my hand.
what could this be? could the MAF just have gotten wet? is it toast?
thanks alot guys

If you are questioning whether water made it to your engine I would check the air filter first. If it's wet or looks as though it was wet and dried out then water made it to your engine and yes probably messed up your MAF. Whether it was enough water to damage the engine is another question. Personally I wouldn't run it anymore. I would have it towed to a trusted dealer or indy. It could be as simple as a MAF cleaning or replacement, but, I don't know that I would want to chance starting my engine again without a professional looking at it first.
