I hope to be in a similar boat soon. I currently have an 02 Z06 and want to add an 02+ 996. I have lusted after them for a while and after test driving one about a month ago I was very happy that it drove exactly as I imagined. Even though the quality of the Z is not the same as the 996 I cannot get rid of it. I will be keeping it for when I want that brutish power. Now the hard part is finding the right 996 for me for the right price.

Fun thread for me, as I have been contemplating the reverse. Since I was a kid, I have always been interested in a 911 and a Corvette. A few years ago I went with the 911, but still look at Corvettes, especially late models, with a little lust. Too bad I can only support one fun car at a time . . .

Did you test drive the turbo or a regular aspirated 911? In my opinion, if you test drive the turbo, you probably wouldn't miss the Z06 that much since it is pretty powerful, plus you get the back seat.

Yeah a buddy of mine had a zo6 with some work done to it, puts out i believe 447@ the wheel. He also has a 2002 996TT up graded turbos, ECM flash and some other odds and ins dyno @ 490 @ the wheels. He told me the Vett is fast but the 996 just feels right, and he thinks his 996 would kill his Vett. Anyways welcome to the world of Porsche...

Don't forget phenomenal handling a Porsche is made for turns on a track not too many American cars can keep up in the twisty.

A Corvette can handle but it does not do a good job of inspiring the confidence. You really need to learn how the Corvette is going to react to get great handling out of it.

A C6 for a 996 doesn't make sense to me. I can see maybe a C5 for a 996 or a 997 for c6 but it seems you're going backwards. I hear the C6 handles alot better than the C5 and can give a 997 grief on the track.

I chose the 996 due to the cost factor. I have never been in or around a Porsche, I have only seen a few in passing. It made better financial sense to buy the cheapest nicest model with a good history. I choose this 99 because it meet all the criteria and was under 20.5k and had 53k miles. I was unsure I would even like the Porsche brand and did not want to splurge on a 997 or 996tt only to find it did not fit my taste. That would leave me scramble to sell and try to recoup my money on an expensive car. This way I was semi protected in that I spent a fraction of the cost and got s car with the same basic layout to test fit. If I did not like it I could recoup my money pretty easily I would assume. I enjoy this car much more than my vette and plan on sprucing it up and changing some things. I am hoping in a few years(4 or less) to add a Audi r8 or 05ish gallarado to the stable for the modern fun. I'm leaning towards the r8 at the moment.
