Reinstalling Exhaust dilemma...

Hey guys
I was putting on the FisterD exhaust muffler last night. Everything went smooth but then I ran into a problem. The muffler pipe just wont slide back into the clamp from the catalytic converter. I tried WD40, hammering, etc. But it just seems to be so hard to put it back in. Unlike, what I have read about the installation...that everything thing slide in with ease.
I guess my question is, has anyone have experience the same problem? and how did you deal with it? or anyone have tips for me about the muffler reinstallation technique?

thanks guys

minh

hi azaytsev
The clamp screws are taken off, but the clamp itself seems to not open as wide as I need it to be. Anyway of opening them wider?

make sure your muffler is not tighten yet...try using a flat head screwdriver & wedge open the clamps...you may have to wiggle the pipe in with force...that's how I did it with mine..

Got a torch?
First, make sure the clamps are open as wide as you can get them without damaging them.
Hit the clamp with a torch for a few minutes. That'll cause the metal to expand.
Meanwhile... got any way to get the muffler tube cold? How about wrap it with an icewater-soaked washcloth for a few minutes? Or dry ice, even better!
That combo might just get you the 1/16'' of play you need.

EDIT-- Darn... I didn't see that you'd already figured it out. Would have been more fun to play with a torch and dry ice. Next time.
