Amp Install Questions

Hello,

I'm on a budget so I wasn't able to get the Focals.

For dash and rear I went with 4" Infinity Kappa 42.9i's.

For the doors, I went with 6" Adire Koda's.

For the HU, I went with a Kenwood KDC-X695.

For a sub, I used my old Bazooka Tube BTA-6100 from my other car (plan on upgrading later).

Currently everything is wired up but using the existing factory amp.

The harness that is used from the head unit to the amp and the harness on the amp itself is my concern...

I plan on going with a 4 channel amp for the dash and doors.

1. Do I just use the pre-amp inputs on the back of my head unit straight to the new amp?

2. Do I then tap into the harness that is going into the factory amp and figure out which wires goes to the dash and doors?

Thanks.

I would re wire the whole system as factory speaker wire is always sub par for high quality speakers and amps.

I still have the stock HU and bought an adapter that allowed me to run two sets of RCA cable (F&R channels) to my JL Audio 6450 amp. For the front dash speakers I used Focal component spears with the crossover located in the trunk so I had to run new wires (need two sets) to the dash speakers (and used much heavier gauge wire than stock). For the rear speakers I used the stock wiring to the rears, component Focals with the crossovers located behind the speakers so the factory wiring to those spots was useable. I also used the factory wiring to the Focal small enclosure subs in the doors. For the rears and doors I spliced into the speaker wiring harness at the location of the old OEM amp. I can look up the coloring of the wires at the amp if that will help you.

Yes new heavier gauge wire for all the speaker locations would have been nice, but a lot more work.

Thanks. I'm thinking of getting a 4-channel to power the dash/rear and use a 2 channel to power my doors.

If I run a splitter for RCA's from the back of the head unit, I should be able to set it up this way (I think).

Having the speaker wire colors from the factory amp returning to all six speakers would definitely help a ton!
