Help. Key will not go into the ingition switch
Over the past month, my ignition key was getting harder, and harder to turn. Last night, I had to yank on it to get it out. So, I ordered a new ignition switch from Pelican Parts. It should arrive soon. This morning, I decided to do an oil change. I jumped in to my P-car to position it on my driveway, and my key would not go into the ignition switch. The key hole is completely closed. I am hoping this is not due to more than the failed ignition switch. Your thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Some years ago I had the same problem on my 2002 C4. Porsche replaced ignition switch under warranty and it was fine thereafter. I remember they told me some 996s had that problem but just replacing the switch solved the problem.
It was the ignition switch. The best $15 I ever spent. Found a great link: http://www.gagme.com/greg/996/ignition.php Folks claim this fix can be done in 15 minutes. Plan on spending 120 minutes if you're an old fart like me. The two microscopic screw are a ***** to get to; let alone able to see. One item which heavily contributed to my success was a bright light. It's dark up in there.
