SoCal/Los Angeles Machine Shop - Rotor Grind
SoCal/Los Angeles Machine Shop - Rotor Grind
I would like to get my factory rotors cleaned up since they are in pretty good shape, rather then replace them. Pretty much take the lip off and smooth a slightly rippled surface. Can someone recommend a good machine shop in Los Angeles that can grind them? (I am on the west side but can drive in the vicinity.) I would like a shop that that has experience/standards compatible with Porsche. Also, any idea on what a reasonable cost should be per rotor?
For a rotor grind I'm not sure there is any reason to pay the Porsche tax. Unless you're looking at doing something unique, which I would ask what are you looking for... but if it's a stock grind, a rotor is a rotor is a rotor. I've had mine done a couple times now (rears, then fronts) at "Clem's junkyard and machine shop" and they come out just fine. Brakes are still good after 20-30k miles.
i always go to J K Auto Repair Shop in San gabriel. The owner is Kevin, he always did a great job for my rotors with nice price. if you go there, just tell him that Kent refer you to his shop.

Thanks for the suggestions. San Gabriel was a little far so I took them to a shop I found in Santa Monica. For some reason I though high quality rotors should be ground and not turned. However the shop indicated that turning, as far as they knew, was the correct process and that they did not really know anyone that ground rotors. They explained that unless you ground both sides at the same time, when one turns over the rotor, you lose the parallel reference. Was I incorrect in thinking that they should be ground?
I received the rotors back from Engler Bros. machine shop (Jerry) in Santa Monica, and they came out very nice. Shall install them as soon as brake pads arrive this week.
