Decisions.......
So I have been debating about my options for my 99 996 C4 Cab. It has 79K miles on the clock. New engine was installed under warranty at 72K. Warranty is in effect until 100K miles. I have not really had any other issues with the car. If I were to keep this car for a few more years, I would do the 02+ fender and headlight upgrade, turbo front and rear bumpers, GT3 side skirts and new rims. But being that is likely about $5k, would I do that only to sell the car in a year? If I were to sell it would be only for a low mileage C4S, Turbo, or 997. SO, I guess the question is reliability after 100K, considering there will only be 25K miles on the engine. This is pressing now because the car was hit on the front fender and bumper and insurance will cover the repaint and fenders, I may have to come up with the headlights and new front bumper, but labor and repaint will be covered. If I was to sell in a year or so, I'd do nothing and just enjoy it....Decisions....
Hey John,
That's a tough situation - not sure how many people here have over 100K miles on their 996. With the new motor, the only issues I would even guess at would be interior parts, etc that show the signs of a 100K mile car. (Considering that the whole exterior would be redone). Do you drive your car everyday? Another consideration with the amount of miles you plan to put on it....
If you dump another 15-20K into your car, you could have a truly unique P-car vs moving that into a bone stock C4S, Turbo, etc...it really depends on what you want I guess. Don't get me wrong, any of those cars are badass out of the box, but if you're looking for individuality, you may want to consider just rebuilding your car and upgrading worn pieces.
If you rebuild, may I suggest a 997 Headlight conversion, full Ruf RGT-RS widebody conversion (never seen it on a cab, that would be sick) and Ruf Supercharger

Albert,
Thanks for the ideas...but not sure if I wanna go that wild....it would be sick...but I think I am leaning towards keeping it.; yes I do drive it daily and I commute from Newport to LA...I may get a commuter car, like a Mini or something to keep some miles off of it. The interior is in excellent shape, so I am not worried about that...If I can get it repainted and the 02+ conversion on the front end from the accident then I'll keep it....

Kinda in the same situation as you. 1999 C2 Cab w/ 70k miles. Car was backed into in a Kinkos parking lot so I did a 2002 front update...all I needed was a good excuse
, had the front headlight (non-litronic) hack done, picked up a rear factory Turbo bumper cheap on Ebay, Sunset for the turbo heat shields, RUF sideskirts from Ebay...all of this before the engine blew 2 weeks ago.
Aftermarket warranty (I'm the 2nd owner but have all service history records) is covering new engine purchase. I figure with the new engine and alot of tasteful mods I can drive this car for a year or two and then sell it for a Turbo or keep it.
If I can ask, why is the warranty on the replacement engine going to end at 100k?
Isn't the replacement warrantied for 2 years as a standalone Porsche product. You should be covered on that engine for 2 years from purchase.
Oh yeah, while I've been waiting on the new engine..I ended up buying some Gemballa Competitions w/ S0-3's for $2,000.
Anybody want to buy a set of 18" Turbo Twists real cheap???

I'd keep the headlight style because they do look nice. I'd put either factory aero kit on the front end or go to a RUF front bumper made for '98-'01 headlights. Add either the factory side skirts or RUF skirts. Buy an '02 read bumper and a factory cab rear spoiler and keep it nice and clean.
